If you feel the need to leave the lake front, you will find many things to do...
Golfing: Within a half mile is the Elk Rapids Golf Club. Then just a few miles more are Lochenheath, GrandTraverse Resort courses, A-Ga-Ming, and many more.
Wine Tasting: The Old Mission Peninsula Wineries are only 15 Miles away. The Leelenau Peninsula Wineries are about one hour away.
Antiquing: The quaint town of Elk Rapids has three antique stores.
Beaches: Elk Rapids has a lovely public beach on Grand Traverse Bay. There is also a playground, tennis court and basketball court.
Tennis and Basketball: Elk Rapids Municiple Park
Restaurants: Our favorite is Pearl's (cajun/creole) just a half mile down the street. There is also the Riverwalk (which you can take your boat to) for wonderful whitefish, at the corner of US31 and Ames. The Torch Riviera has great ribs, it's just before the Torch River Bridge. Siren Hall is in downtown Elk Rapids and has a charming modern flare. Cellar 152 is a gourmet market with a limited menu for dining. Chef Charles has delicious pizza. The Town Club is known for great burgers. Get an ice cream treat at the Cone Corral on Ames St.
Casinos: The closest casino is Turtle Creek Casino on M72. It is about 15 minutes from the house.
Torch Lake Sandbar: Over an acre of ankle to knee deep water just past the Torch River. You can get there by boat (Elk Lake to Lake Skegemog to Torch River) or car (the public access is on Crystal Beach Rd.) Pick up snack supplies and hit the only restroom available at Fabiano's at the bridge. The Sandbar has a party atmosphere on Saturdays and a family atmosphere on Sundays. During the week it is pretty calm. Plan to spend more than a few hours. For lunch try the Dockside restaurant on the east side of Torch Lake at the Clam River.
We are on our way to the Sandbar!
Sleeping Bear National Park: You can take M72 west to the sand dunes. They are amazing and only about an hour away. www.sleepingbeardunes.com
Skiing/Snowboarding: Shanty Creek/Schuss Mountain is only 30 minutes away!
